Situated in Seward

We spent a full day here in Seward today. Unfortunately it is even hazier (smokier) today due to fires on the peninsula. You may have to use your imagination on some pictures to make out the incredible mountains. By the way, it was record warm in Anchorage yesterday - 80! They don't get near the warmth that Fairbanks does - nor the cold for that matter.

On the edge of town is Exit Glacier...we had to go check it out. It is part of the Harding Ice Field, which is larger than the state of Rhode Island, and is a half-mile deep. What we saw is literally only the tip of the iceberg. ;-)

Up close and personal....

It was a mile hike into the glacier. On our way out, we encountered one of Casper's larger relatives...a mountain goat. He posed nicely for us.

The harbor of Seward... You can also see the front part of a cruise ship docked for the day.

We visited the Alaska Sea Life Center, and caught this otter playing around...

Some of the glorious scenery thru the haze...

Downtown Seward.

Drove to the other side of the bay, looking back at the city of Seward, which you can barely make out in the haze.

June's favorite wildflower - fireweed. The story goes that the bloom starts at the bottom and works it's way up. When the bloom reaches the top, summer is over. According to this, we're about half-way there.

More hazy mountains, glaciers, etc

A sign along the road to our RV park....

Tomorrow we head to Cooper Landing, not far down the road.
